  28. 1. Can I install Modem Wizard without a company name? ------
  29.  
  30. The Modem Wizard installation (using InstallSHIELD) requires 
  31. information to be entered into all fields, including the 
  32. company name. If you purchased Modem Wizard for personal 
  33. use, in the "Company Name" field enter "None" or "Personal".
  34.  
  35. 2. Long file name support ----------------------------------
  36.  
  37. Modem Wizard utilizes a Win 95/Win 3.1 compatible setup 
  38. processor.  Therefore, Win 95 long file and directory names 
  39. are supported.

  41. 3. I have a modem but it canÆt be found --------------------
  42.  
  43. Here are several possible reasons why:
  44.  
  45. A. If you were connected at the time, Modem Wizard won't find 
  46. your modem. Its tests are non-destructive and to make sure 
  47. we don't disconnect an on-line session, we won't find your 
  48. modem if your modem is in use.
  49. B.  You have a Windows only modem. Modem Wizard's test 
  50. program runs in a DOS box for a more accurate test of your 
  51. modem. Use the Windows only modem test instead.
  52. C.  The cable from your computer to your modem is loose 
  53. (external only).
  54. D.  Your modem is in a funny :) state. Try turning your 
  55. modem off and then on (external only).  Also try shutting 
  56. down Windows and then turn your computer off and then on 
  57. (internal only).
  58. E. Another application is using the modem.

  60. 4. Yesterday my modem was found but not today -------------- 
  61.  
  62. Here are several possible reasons why:
  63. A. The cable from your computer to your modem is loose 
  64. (external only).
  65. B. Your modem is in a funny state. Try turning your modem 
  66. off and then on (external only). Also try shutting down 
  67. Windows and then turn your computer off and then on 
  68. (internal only).
  69. C. Another application is using the modem.

  71. 5. Does Modem Wizard set up my computer for the internet? --
  72.  
  73. You need a modem and an Internet Service Provider (ISP) such 
  74. as AOL or AT&T WorldNet installed before Modem Wizard can 
  75. completely setup your computer up for the Internet.
  76.  
  77. 6. What is an "ISP"? ---------------------------------------
  78.  
  79. ISP stands for Internet Service Provider. AOL, AT&T WorldNet 
  80. and EarthLink are examples of ISPs.
  81.  
  82. 7. When not to "Skip Browser" ------------------------------
  83.  
  84. When you connect using Modem Wizard or Modem Monitor, you 
  85. get a screen that allows you to choose which browser to 
  86. load. You also have the option to "Skip Browser". You might 
  87. want to do this, for example, if you plan to directly access 
  88. an FTP site without using the web.
  89.  
  90. However, if you have selected one of Modem Wizard's direct 
  91. connections to web sites, such as the Modem Exchange or the 
  92. Tech Support menu command, you must choose a browser. If you 
  93. select "Skip Browser", Modem Wizard cannot complete your 
  94. requested web access.

  96. 8. Working with AOL ---------------------------------------
  97.  
  98. Modem Wizard was designed specifically to work with AOL.  
  99. However, it is possible to set conflicting options in Modem 
  100. Wizard and AOL.  Most often these problems will be seen if 
  101. Modem Wizard has been set to automatically redial if the 
  102. connection is lost and AOL has NOT been set to remember the 
  103. password.  See below and the FAQ for information on how to 
  104. resolve this and other issues.

  106. 9. Problems when Skipping the Login Dialog box ------------
  107.  
  108. The Login Dialog screen includes the telephone number of 
  109. your provider, user name, and, when saved, your password.  
  110. To save you time, Modem Wizard allows you a "one click" 
  111. logon to the internet if you select "Skip Login Dialog" on 
  112. the Modem Monitor screen.  If any information is incorrect 
  113. or missing, for example the ISP's phone number has changed 
  114. or if you haven't saved the password, your "automatic" login 
  115. will fail.  To undo the "Skip Login Dialog", go the Modem 
  116. Monitor screen and select "Reset Personalization".

  118. 10. A quirk with Worldnet ----------------------------------
  119.  
  120. This quirk happens when you have other ISPs installed along 
  121. with the WorldNet ISP installed.
  122.  
  123. WorldNet comes with a Netscape that is WorldNet aware. If 
  124. you run a Netscape that didn't come WorldNet you may run 
  125. into incompatibilty problems. Furthermore, If you run a 
  126. Netscape or Internet Explorer BEFORE loading the WorldNet 
  127. Dialer you may have problems because of incompatibility with 
  128. WINSOCK.DLL. 
  129.  
  130. In some cases, if you have Netscape that you downloaded or 
  131. purchased from Netscape and you are using WorldNet, you will 
  132. have no problems as long as you dial using WorldNet before 
  133. running your version of Netscape.

  135. To be safe, terminate all browsers before dialing using 
  136. WorldNet and then load your browsers.
  137.  
  138. 11. Changing the phone number before running Remote Test ---
  139.  
  140. When running the Remote Test from the Modem Test screen, the 
  141. telephone number of the remote modem is displayed.  If you 
  142. need special processing, for example dialing 9 to gain 
  143. outside access, you can edit the phone number yourself.
  144.   
  145. First, the "Local Call" button removes all digits contained 
  146. in the parentheses.
  147.  
  148. Second, you may add any addtional digits you need (such as 9) 
  149. to the phone number displayed. If it is a local call, click 
  150. the "Local Call" button and add the "9". If it is a long
  151. distance call, you can add the "9" either inside or in front 
  152. of the parentheses.
